“I Want This” — Messi Drops New Hint About 2026 World Cup

For the past few months, Lionel Messi has spoken several times about his chances of playing in the 2026 World Cup. He mentioned that his participation depends on whether he remains fully fit. In an interview with NBC last month, Messi said he wanted to be part of the 2026 World Cup. Now, the Argentine legend has expressed that desire in a different way.

In an advertisement for Argentina’s new jersey launch, several footballers and Argentine Football Association president Claudio Tapia were seen playing cards. When the number ‘four’ appeared, Messi said, “I want this.”

Many believe this short remark hints at Messi’s desire to play in the 2026 World Cup. It may also symbolize his dream of leading Argentina to a fourth World Cup title.

At 38, Messi has already won the World Cup with Argentina at both youth and senior levels. He also won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Over his 20-year national team career, Messi has played in five World Cups — Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018, and Qatar 2022.

Now, Messi’s sights are set on his sixth World Cup, which will take place in June next year in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Although he has been asked several times about the 2026 World Cup before, he never gave a clear answer. This latest hint in the advertisement has reignited excitement among Argentine fans.

Even if one ignores the comments or the hint from the advertisement, Messi seems to be steadily moving toward playing in the World Cup. Argentina’s final friendly tour of the year will take place in Angola, with Messi leading the team. The match, scheduled for November 14, will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence.

Argentina has already announced the squad for the tour, with coach Scaloni including three new players to evaluate young talents.
