A mobile court came under attack in Boda upazila of Panchagarh while returning after seizing banned polythene. The incident was confirmed by Md. Jawanul Mondol, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Boda Police Station.
The incident took place on Tuesday (November 11) before Maghrib prayers when Boda Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Ashraful Islam led a drive in Boda Bazar.
According to reports, two business establishments were fined a total of Tk 4,500 for storing banned polythene, and the seized polythene was confiscated.
While returning with the seized polythene on a van, an angry mob started chanting slogans such as “fake magistrate” and “fake mobile court.” At one stage, they snatched away the seized goods and assaulted the court’s office assistant. When the assistant tried to flee, several individuals caught and physically assaulted him.
Later, when the Executive Magistrate arrived, police detained two individuals and took them to the land office amid a heated exchange with the crowd. However, the mob continued protesting outside the office. As the situation grew tense, the army intervened and dispersed the crowd to restore order.
Executive Magistrate Md. Ashraful Islam said that the mob obstructed the operation of the mobile court and looted the seized goods, which were later recovered.
