In light of the Awami League’s announced lockdown in Dhaka, a police checkpoint has been set up at Amin Bazar, a key entry point to the capital, to conduct thorough checks. Police are inspecting private cars, microbuses, and passenger buses to prevent any potential acts of sabotage.
On Wednesday (November 12), the police from Savar Model Police Station set up the checkpoint on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in the Dhaka-bound lane, conducting inspections throughout the afternoon.
On-site observations showed a noticeable decrease in long-distance passenger buses operating on the Dhaka-Aricha highway compared to usual days. However, private vehicles and local buses continued to operate normally. From noon onwards, police began checking vehicles and verifying passenger identification documents.
Savar Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jewel Mia told Dhaka Post that the checkpoint at Amin Bazar was set up to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property ahead of tomorrow’s lockdown. He added that various vehicles traveling on the highway were being checked, and the police were verifying the passengers’ ID documents. He also mentioned that four individuals had been arrested in the last 24 hours during the operation, and the search efforts will continue to ensure public safety.
