Mithila Advances in Miss Universe, Secures Second Position

The 74th edition of the Miss Universe pageant has commenced in Thailand, with contestants from 121 countries competing for the prestigious title. The event organisers have scheduled various activities for all participants, and voting in multiple categories is now underway.

In the People’s Choice category, Tanjia Jamal Mithila from Bangladesh has made a remarkable leap. By 8 p.m. on Wednesday, she had garnered 192,313 votes, placing her in third position. The contestants from the Philippines and Chile hold the first and second positions, respectively. Mithila, however, advanced even further during the night, reaching second place by the early hours of the morning. Voting will continue until 19 November.

In addition to her success in the People’s Choice category, Mithila is also excelling in other divisions. She currently holds top spots in the Best National Costume (first), Miss Congeniality (second), Best Evening Gown (second), and Best Skin (third).

“I was informed about the voting results on Tuesday night,” Mithila shared. “When I saw that I had reached third place, I could hardly believe it. My whole body was shaking. I was speechless and tears came to my eyes. I can’t explain how I felt. I am truly overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone—especially from my fellow countrymen and colleagues in the entertainment industry, who are all rallying behind me and wanting to see me win on this global stage. I feel deeply inspired.”

Mithila also expressed that both the votes and the judges’ scores are essential to securing victory in the competition. “Since arriving in Thailand, I have performed well in every event, and I can sense that everyone recognises my efforts. I am confident I will continue to excel in the upcoming events. Now, all I need is the support of my fellow Bangladeshis. I’ve heard that over 60,000 votes came in just on Tuesday alone. This is the first time Bangladesh has reached such a strong position in Miss Universe. With the continued support of our people, I’m sure I’ll have great news to share soon.”

On Wednesday night, the official Miss Universe Bangladesh Facebook page posted an update, urging people to vote: “We need approximately 25,000 more votes to move into second place!!! Insha Allah, it will happen tonight!! Bangladesh is unstoppable, vote for Bangladesh!”

Mithila arrived in Thailand on 2 November to participate in the Miss Universe competition as the crowned winner of Miss Universe Bangladesh 2025. In 2020, she also won the national title but was unable to compete internationally due to the COVID-19 restrictions at the time.

With continued support, Mithila remains hopeful of bringing home the crown for Bangladesh this year.
