The 74th edition of the world’s prestigious beauty pageant ‘Miss Universe’ is currently taking place in Thailand, where Tanzia Zaman Mithila is representing Bangladesh. She is competing against contestants from 121 countries and has already drawn attention by climbing to the top of the voting charts.
According to information available on Miss Universe Bangladesh’s official Facebook page as of 8 p.m. on Wednesday (November 12), Mithila ranked third in the ‘People’s Choice’ category with 192,313 votes.
As the night progressed, the Bangladeshi star moved up another position. By early morning, she reached the second spot and currently remains in that position. This achievement has sparked excitement across the country.
Meanwhile, on Thursday (November 13) at around 9 a.m., Miss Universe Bangladesh’s official Facebook page announced that Mithila needs 50,000 more votes to reach the first position on the Miss Universe stage.
Voting will continue until November 19, and Mithila’s fans are working tirelessly to keep her ahead. Besides the ‘People’s Choice’ category, Mithila is also leading in several others — ‘Best National Costume’ (first), ‘Miss Congeniality’ (second), ‘Best Evening Gown’ (second), and ‘Best Skin’ (third).
Mithila is currently staying in Pattaya, preparing for the next round after completing the Phuket events. She herself confirmed through her Facebook page in the morning that she remains in the second position.
Expressing gratitude to everyone for their support, Mithila said she is seeking votes to take Bangladesh forward on the Miss Universe stage.
Earlier, in an interview with a media outlet, Mithila said, “When I found out I ranked third on Tuesday night, I couldn’t believe it at first. My whole body was shaking, and I felt like crying. I was overwhelmed by the love and support from my country’s people.”
She further said, “In the judging process, votes as well as judges’ opinions are important. However, I believe I’ve performed well in every event so far. The love and votes from my people are my greatest inspiration.”
