Mentally Disabled Young Woman Raped in Chattogram

In Anwara, Chattogram, a 22-year-old mentally disabled young woman has been raped. Critically injured, she was rescued and sent yesterday, Sunday afternoon, to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Local residents and police sources said that the mentally disabled young woman has been living in the Anwara area for several months. She was in a physically weak condition due to the assault. When the situation came to the attention of the local community, they informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). Subsequently, through local representatives and village police, the young woman was rescued and admitted to Anwara Upazila Health Complex, before being transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Anwara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Monir Hossain, told the media that preliminary investigations reveal that the mentally disabled young woman was raped by multiple individuals. Legal action will be taken after receiving the medical report.

Anwara UNO Tahmina Akter said that upon learning of the incident, the young woman was rescued and sent to the hospital. Strict legal measures will be taken against the perpetrators.
