A procession under the banners of Youth League and the banned Student League took place openly in front of the police in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj. On Tuesday (18th November) at 9:00 AM, local leaders and activists from the Youth League and Student League staged the procession in Imamganj Bazar area of Basail Union in the upazila.
The procession was led by Jahirul Islam Litu, Joint Convener of Sirajdikhan Upazila Youth League. Following this, three police officers, including a Sub-Inspector, have been suspended for negligence of duty.
The suspended officers are Sub-Inspector Kamrulzzaman Sikder, Constable Shafiqul, and Constable Badsha Mia.
Local sources report that despite being banned, many leaders and activists from both the Youth League and Student League participated in the procession. The public witnessing this procession led to widespread concern among both the general public and local political figures. The procession toured the main road of Imamganj Bazar, creating tension in the area.
Meanwhile, a police patrol car was seen right behind the procession, further complicating and adding controversy to the situation. Following the announcement of the death sentence for Sheikh Hasina, this procession suddenly took place on the morning of the following day, sparking various discussions among the locals.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddique of Sirajdikhan Police Station said, “While the procession was taking place, a police patrol car was passing through the road. Since the police officers did not stop them, three officers were suspended for negligence of duty.”
