Argument Over Not Buying a New Saree, Husband Dies After Wife Strikes Him with a Stool

In a tragic incident in Birampur, Dinajpur, a man named Hafizul Islam (65) died after his wife struck him with a wooden stool during an argument over not buying a new saree for the upcoming Nabanna festival. The wife, Rehena Begum, has been arrested by the police in connection with the death.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (18th November) morning in the village of Birampur. The deceased, Hafizul, was the son of the late Abdus Samad from Kuchiamor village in the 4 No. Diyor Union.

Local sources report that Rehena had asked her husband to buy her a new saree for the Nabanna festival. When he refused, a heated argument broke out between the couple on Tuesday morning. During the altercation, Rehena struck Hafizul on the head with a wooden stool, causing him to collapse on the ground. He was later taken to Birampur Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Birampur Police Station’s OC Mamatazul Haque said, “Upon receiving information about the incident, police were dispatched to the scene. The body was recovered and sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The accused, Rehena Begum, has been arrested and legal action is being taken.”
