Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has announced that Saudi Arabia will increase its investment in the United States from 600 billion dollars to nearly 1 trillion dollars (equivalent to 1 lakh crore dollars). The information was reported on Wednesday (19 November) by the news agency Anadolu.
On Tuesday (18 November) local time, standing beside US President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington, Mohammed bin Salman told reporters that either today or tomorrow they would be able to announce that the 600 billion-dollar investment is being raised to nearly 1 trillion dollars.
He added that the two countries will sign numerous agreements across various sectors, from technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to other fields, which will create major investment opportunities.
Trump expressed some surprise at the announcement, saying, “So you are saying the 600 billion will now become 1 trillion?” In response, Salman said, “Certainly, because the agreements we are making today will facilitate this investment increase.”
Trump thanked the Saudi Crown Prince, saying he appreciated Saudi Arabia’s agreement to invest 600 billion dollars in the United States. He added that since Salman is his friend, the investment might even reach 1 trillion— although he would need to work on that a bit more.
He further stated that the 600 billion dollars can definitely be considered confirmed, although the amount may increase.
Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, described the meeting between President Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as a significant day for Saudi-US relations.
She said the two countries have signed several major bilateral agreements, although she did not disclose the details.
