Arson on Train in Mymensingh

In Mymensingh, miscreants set fire to a local train coach parked at the railway station’s wash pit. Initially, no suspects have been identified. The arson occurred at 4:00 am on Wednesday (19 November), but the prompt action of three members of the Railway Security Force (RNB) successfully controlled the fire.

Md. Sirajul Islam, in charge of the RNB Mymensingh office, said, “Upon noticing the fire, the on-duty security personnel immediately reached the scene. They saw flames on several seats in the coach. Lacking proper equipment, they soaked their jackets in water and used them to control the fire. The blaze was extinguished before a major incident could occur.”

He added, “Despite pursuing the miscreants, they escaped in the darkness. After the fire was put out, a few seats in one coach were found burnt.”

Station Superintendent Abdullah Al Harun said, “Thanks to the courageous action of the RNB, the miscreants’ attempt was thwarted. Had the fire not been controlled, it could have spread to adjacent coaches, the train engine, and other parts of the platform, creating a dangerous situation.”

He further stated, “The coaches were parked at the wash pit outside the platform for cleaning. At night, a group of miscreants used gunpowder and petrol to set the train on fire. CCTV footage is being analysed to apprehend those involved.”
