Elderly Man, 73, Killed After Being Hit by Motorbike During Jamaat Leader’s Showdown

An elderly man named Fojar Ali (73) died after being struck by a motorbike during a motorcycle showdown led by Jamaat-e-Islami’s nominated candidate and central organisational secretary, Muhaddis Abdul Khalek, in Satkhira.

The incident occurred on Saturday (22 November) afternoon in the Badamtala Bazar area of Alipur Union in Sadar Upazila. The deceased, Fojar Ali, was a resident of Karigorpara.

His nephew Shamsuzzaman stated that Fojar Ali was crossing the road on his way to prayer when he was hit by one of the motorbikes taking part in the showdown. Locals took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His funeral was held in Badamtala that night.

Iqbal Hossain, a UP member of Alipur Union, said the accident occurred when the showdown, which began at the bypass roundabout near Satkhira Polytechnic College, was passing through various roads. Fojar Ali fell onto the road after being hit while crossing and died before reaching the hospital.

Habibur Rahman, general secretary of Jamaat’s Satkhira Sadar Upazila unit, said Fojar Ali was a supporter of their organisation. He claimed that Fojar Ali was standing beside the road when he was hit by the looking glass of a motorbike, causing him to fall and die.

SI Mehedi Hasan of Satkhira Sadar Police Station said an unnatural death case had been recorded as the family did not file any complaint. After the inquest, the body was handed over to the relatives.
