Following multiple earthquakes across Dhaka and other parts of the country, Jagannath University has decided to suspend classes for four days. For the same reason, all examinations will remain halted until 4 December 2025.
Students residing at the university’s Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani Hall have been instructed to leave the hall by 10 am tomorrow, Monday (24 November 2025). An emergency notice issued today, Sunday, confirmed the suspension of classes and examinations.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University has also declared closure until 6 December due to the post-earthquake situation. Students have been asked to vacate their halls by 5 pm today.
The emergency notice at Jagannath University stated that an urgent meeting was held today to assess the situation. Considering student safety, all classes and examinations will remain closed from 24 November 2025 to 27 November 2025. From 30 November 2025 to 4 December 2025, only online classes will continue, while examinations will remain suspended. Departments conducting ongoing oral examinations may continue them with written consent from students. The central library and open reading spaces will also remain closed during this period.

Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani Hall will remain closed from 24 November 2025 until further notice, and students must vacate the hall by 10 am on that day. A specialist committee formed earlier will inspect all university buildings to assess risks. Another meeting will be held on 4 December 2025 to determine further actions based on the committee’s report. Office activities will continue as usual.
It was further mentioned that decisions regarding the ongoing JnUSU activities will be taken by the JnUSU Election Commission.
Earlier today, all classes and examinations were suspended due to anxiety and fear following the earthquakes. On Saturday, the university administration announced that although all classes and examinations would remain suspended, official activities would continue as normal. Student transport services would remain suspended, but buses for teachers, officials and staff members would run as usual. Activities related to the JnUSU election would continue as scheduled. New dates for postponed examinations will be announced later by respective departments.
