Buildings Are Being Constructed However People Wish, Without Approval: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that buildings are being constructed across the city in any manner people wish, without obtaining proper approval. He claimed that land grabbers have destroyed Dhaka’s canals, wetlands and rivers, and are now erecting multi-storey buildings one floor after another without permission. Yet the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) pays no attention to these activities, he stated.

Rizvi made these remarks on Sunday (23 November) at a prayer gathering organised in memory of Saiful Islam Patu, former vice-president of the Swechchhasebak Dal, held in Naya Paltan. He further commented that no one is following building codes designed to ensure earthquake resilience.

He added that those who destroy canals and rivers are the very same land grabbers who later emerge as leaders in political parties and become wealthy through illegal means. According to Rizvi, such incidents have become even more frequent during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina.
