The widely discussed Bangladeshi thriller “Omar”, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mohammad Mostofa Kamal Raz, has officially landed on the American streaming giant Amazon Prime Video. This marks a significant leap for Bangladeshi mainstream cinema as it reaches one of the world’s most competitive digital platforms. To accommodate international audiences, the film now includes high-quality English subtitles, a move that is expected to broaden its global appeal. The announcement was confirmed through an official media release by the production team.

“Omar” is Raz’s sixth feature film and originally premiered on 26 April 2024 during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday season. Upon release in Bangladesh, it quickly generated buzz for its strong narrative structure, unexpected twists and dynamic blend of thriller elements with subtle comedic moments.

A Story Built on Tension and Unpredictability

The film opens with a shocking incident: the sudden murder of Chhoto Mirza, the son of the powerful and feared Borro Mirza. Two characters—Omar and Bodi—who happen to be at the crime scene immediately start blaming each other for the killing. Both are terrified that if Borro Mirza discovers what happened, they will be the first to pay the price. Driven by panic and self-preservation, they decide to hide the body. What unfolds next is a chain of mysteries, misunderstandings and nail-biting twists that push the story forward. The suspense surrounding Omar and Bodi’s ultimate fate keeps viewers glued to the screen until the very end.

Cast and Crew

Shariful Raj leads the film in the titular role, with Nasir Uddin Khan starring opposite him as Bodi. The supporting cast includes Shahiduzzaman Selim, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Erfan Mridha Shiblu, Abu Huraira Tanvir, Nafis Ahmed, Rozi Siddiqui, Tanzila Haque Maisha and Ayman Simla. Adding star power, Indian actress Darshana Banik appears in a special musical sequence that has already attracted considerable attention.

The title “Omar” was chosen by renowned Bangladeshi actress Mehazabien Chowdhury. The film is dedicated to two cultural icons: the late writer and director Humayun Ahmed, and legendary actor Manna. Produced under the banner of Master Communications by Khorhshed Alam, the film was scripted by Siddiq Ahmed. Cinematography was handled by Raju Raj, with Samurai Maruf serving as art director.

Music and Production Quality

The film’s soundtrack features an impressive line-up of vocalists, including Dilshad Nahar Kona, Arfin Rumey, Animesh Roy and India’s Ishan Mitra. The lyrics were written by Russell Mahmud, Jony Haque, Someshwar Ali and Amit Chatterjee. Music direction was shared by Naved Parvez, Amit Chatterjee and Indian composer Savvy.
