We’ve Been Deceived for 53 Years, No More: Chormonai Pir

Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, the Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and the revered Chormonai Pir, delivered a powerful address at the historic two-day Mahfil held in Chormonai during Agrahayan. He said, “We have realized that you cannot deceive the people by giving an old bride a new saree and a veil. The people of Bangladesh will no longer fall for such deception. We have been deceived for 53 years, and it ends here. The nation must be freed.”

Speaking on the second day of the Mahfil on Thursday (27 November), attended by scholars, clerics, and devout intellectuals from across the country, Mufti Rezaul Karim emphasized that meaningful change in governance is essential for the welfare of the nation.

Special guest Dr A F M Khalid Hossain, Advisor for Religious Affairs to the Caretaker Government, also addressed the gathering. The event marked a significant moment for the Islamic scholar community as the new president of the National Ulama-Mashayekh Imma Council was announced: Mufti Mizanur Rahman Saeed, one of the country’s leading scholars.

Mufti Rezaul Karim warned that the upcoming elections must bring genuine change. “For 53 years, the country has been run by those who follow the same principles and ideology. Under this system, corruption has become normalized. Thousands of mothers have lost their children. Now, for a new leadership to emerge, the old guard is desperate. They will return to power and continue their same corrupt practices if the people are not vigilant,” he said.

Addressing his role, the Pir clarified, “I have not been a candidate anywhere, and I will not be one. I am traveling across the country, spending my personal funds day and night to raise awareness. My aim is clear: we love our country, we love Islam, and we love the people. This is not about politics; it is about guiding the nation towards justice and moral governance.”

The Mahfil brought together scholars and intellectuals from various levels, who shared their experiences on religious, social, and community development initiatives. The Chormonai Pir stressed the importance of moral leadership, transparency, and public welfare in national governance.

According to him, the people of Bangladesh must unite to hold leaders accountable and ensure that corruption, deceit, and mismanagement do not define the country’s future. He urged citizens to embrace principled leadership, which prioritizes national development and the welfare of ordinary citizens.

The Pir concluded his address by highlighting the responsibility of religious leaders to guide the public: “Our message is simple. The people must be aware, the leadership must be accountable, and the nation must be freed from decades of deception. This is our duty to the country and to God.”
