In Chatmohar, Pabna, two prominent female leaders of the Upazila Women’s Wing were arrested by police on Wednesday night. The detainees are Buri Sarkar (42), senior vice-president of the now-defunct Chatmohar Upazila Women’s Wing, daughter of the late Dr. Kobad Hossain of Shalikha Mohalla, and Rahima Reza (45), former organisational secretary of the same dissolved committee, and wife of VP Selim Reza of Baluchar Mohalla.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of Chatmohar Police Station, Md. Monjurul Alam, the suspects were apprehended in separate operations within Chatmohar municipal area under the CR 513/25 (Chat) case issued by the Pabna Magistrate Court-04. They are scheduled to be produced before the court on Thursday and sent to Pabna Jail.
The case report mentions that on 23 August at around 5 pm, at the municipal bus stand (Afratpara), during a BNP programme, Rahima and Buri allegedly assaulted the general secretary, Advocate Tamanna Aziza Sorna, using local weapons, following a previous dispute. The victim filed a case against them and several others for attempted murder and robbery.
Notably, on 1 September, Rahima Reza was expelled from the post of organisational secretary of the defunct committee over allegations of drug trafficking and abuse, an issue that sparked significant political debate in Chatmohar.
