A BNP activist, Md Rafik, also known as Rafi (55), has been shot dead by miscreants in Daulatpur, Kushtia. Two others were injured in the incident.
The killing occurred at around 6:45 pm on Thursday, 4 December. The deceased, Rafik, was the son of the late Motaly from Pachabhita village in Piarpur Union of the upazila. He was an active supporter of the local BNP.
According to police and local sources, Rafik had been sitting in a shop at the local market when several miscreants arrived on a motorcycle and suddenly fired multiple rounds at him. He died on the spot after being shot in the chest. Two individuals, Robjel Farazi and Yusuf, were injured by gunfire and received initial treatment.
Police stated that the exact motive behind the killing is still unclear. However, they suspect that previous enmity may have led to the incident. Panic and tension spread through the area following the gunshots, prompting locals to run in fear. Police later arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Additional police forces have been deployed to prevent further unrest. No case has yet been filed regarding the incident.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Solaiman Sheikh said that the body had been recovered and an inquest report prepared. He added that efforts are underway to identify those involved and bring them to justice.
