Hampshire County Cricket Club has appointed Russell Domingo, the former Bangladesh and South Africa head coach, on a two-year contract. The appointment marks a significant move by the county as they look to reinforce their coaching department with an experienced international figure.
Domingo will continue his association with the Lions in South Africa, dividing his time between the two roles. The Lions have confirmed that this arrangement has been in place since 2023 and will continue without affecting his responsibilities. Reports also suggest that Domingo might be involved in upcoming Pakistan Super League seasons.
Hampshire’s coaching reshuffle includes two additional appointments. Shane Burger, who previously coached Scotland, joins as the new bowling coach, while former West Indies star Jimmy Adams arrives as batting coach.
Domingo, aged 51, has an extensive coaching background. His tenure with South Africa from 2012 to 2017 included numerous successful series. His time with Bangladesh between 2019 and 2022 saw the team reach new milestones, including rare overseas victories and improved consistency in white-ball cricket.
Hampshire believe Domingo’s wide-ranging experience will help the club remain competitive in all formats while fostering talent development. His calm leadership style, combined with strategic depth, is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the team’s future direction.
