Public and Media Urged Not to Spread Confusion over Poll Schedule and Voting Date

The Senior Secretary of the Election Commission (EC), Akhtar Ahmed, has urged the public and the media to refrain from spreading confusion regarding the schedule and voting date for the upcoming national parliamentary election.

In a statement to the media on Friday evening, he said that no final decision has yet been taken regarding the announcement of the election schedule. Anyone claiming to know the date is speaking based on personal assumption or responsibility.

He added that, given the current situation in the country, responsible conduct is expected from the media.

Meanwhile, various reports have suggested that the schedule could be announced on 11 December. Some have also mentioned February as the possible month for voting.

The EC will hold an official meeting this Sunday to discuss the upcoming election schedule. Additionally, the EC has requested a meeting with President Md. Sahabuddin to discuss the matter of announcing the schedule. According to sources, the President has responded by fixing 10 December at 12 pm for the meeting.
