Man Killed in Mob Beating After Mosque Announcement in Noakhali

A young man was killed in a mob beating in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali following an announcement made over a mosque loudspeaker. The incident occurred around 8:00am on Monday (8 December) in front of Mandar Bari in South Hajipur village under Ward No. 1 of Hajipur Union.

The deceased was identified as Fakhrul Islam, also known as Manju (25), son of Rohan Mia from Poura Hajipur village under Ward No. 9 of Chowmuhani Municipality.

Police said Fakhrul had four cases filed against him over extortion and criminal activities. Arrest warrants had been issued in two of those cases, and he was absconding.

According to local sources, Fakhrul allegedly stopped an autorickshaw carrying Mizanur Rahman, son of Abdul Motaleb, and demanded extortion money. Following an altercation, villagers were called through an announcement on the mosque microphone and Fakhrul was beaten to death on the spot.

His body was later found lying beside a road at a three-road junction between Hajipur and Sharifpur unions. Police recovered the body and prepared an inquest report before sending it to the police station.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and legal proceedings are underway.
