Hardik Pandya Destroys South Africa on Return

Hardik Pandya’s return to international cricket was nothing short of sensational. On a pitch that seemed designed to challenge batters at every turn, Pandya posted an unbeaten 59, hammering six fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 210. This was more than just good cricket—it was sheer, unrelenting power and precision combined.

After recovering from a quadriceps injury, Pandya stepped back into the Indian side with remarkable impact. India, tottering at 48 for 3, surged to 175 thanks to his dominant innings. The challenging red soil strip at Cuttack that had previously unsettled other batters seemed entirely under his control. The next highest score in the match barely reached half of Pandya’s total.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed his admiration: “We expected 160, but Hardik took us to 175. That’s the difference he makes.” The South African side struggled against Indian bowlers and fell for a meagre 74 in just over 12 overs.

Even the opposition’s batting coach, Ashwell Prince, could not hide his admiration. “He’s calm yet fearless. He reads the ball perfectly and executes shots with clarity. That’s what makes him special,” he said.

Pandya’s innings was a masterclass in adaptability. He attacked spinners and pacers alike, showcased refined off-side shots, and electrified the crowd with an upper cut off Nortje to bring up his fifty. He described his approach as timing over force, adapting to the wicket’s nuances.

After batting, Pandya proved his all-round credentials by bowling two overs to claim the wicket of David Miller. Former India coach Sanjay Bangar highlighted Pandya’s unmatched value: “He can bat in the top five, bowl as a frontline seamer, and dominate games. There’s simply no one like him.”

With the World Cup approaching, India’s hopes rise with Pandya in full flow. His combination of power, precision, and composure marks him as a player capable of single-handedly turning matches around.
