Mother and Teenage Daughter Murdered Over Trivial Sum

In a chilling and utterly shocking incident in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, the lives of a mother and her teenage daughter were brutally taken in a crime that has left the local community reeling. Authorities confirmed that the horrific act was orchestrated by the family’s domestic worker, Ayesha, and her husband, Rabbi, reportedly over a paltry sum of just two thousand taka. The victims have been identified as Lailah Firoz, aged 48, and her 15-year-old daughter, Nafisa Lawal Binati Aziz. The perpetrators have since been apprehended.

S.N.M. Nazrul Islam, Additional Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for Crime and Operations, addressed a press conference on Thursday, providing harrowing details of the case. According to preliminary investigations, a minor financial dispute between Lailah and Ayesha had escalated into tension and resentment. Seeking revenge, Ayesha reportedly returned to the household the following day armed with a knife and attacked Lailah with lethal intent.

Nafisa, who had been asleep at the time, woke amid the commotion. In a desperate bid to seek help, she attempted to contact the house guard via the home intercom system. Tragically, she too fell victim to the assailant’s ruthless attack. Following the murders, Rabbi is alleged to have assisted his wife in attempting to flee Dhaka, though law enforcement swiftly tracked him down and effected his arrest.

The bodies of Lailah and Nafisa were recovered on Monday, 8 December, from their Mohammadpur residence. That same night, Lailah’s husband and schoolteacher, A.J.M. Azizul Islam, formally filed a murder complaint with the Mohammadpur police station.

Local residents have expressed profound shock and unease at the atrocity, warning that such incidents undermine domestic safety and public confidence.

Commissioner Nazrul Islam vowed resolutely, “We are committed to ensuring that such brutal acts find no place in our society. The accused will face the full force of the law.”

Police continue to investigate whether any additional individuals were complicit in the crime, and the inquiry remains ongoing.
