South Africa Level Series with Commanding Victory Over India

South Africa produced a dominant all-round display in New Chandigarh as they defeated India by 51 runs, levelling the five-match T20I series 1–1. What initially appeared to be a routine chase for India transformed into a dramatic collapse, with the hosts losing five wickets for just five runs, leaving the crowd stunned.

A Chase That Began With Hope

India needed 72 runs from 18 balls, an equation that usually signals defeat. However, a brief burst of clean hitting from Tilak Varma and Jitesh Sharma, who smashed 15 runs off four balls, momentarily revived Indian hopes. Commentators were quick to note that the match was “not over yet,” especially with India still holding five wickets in hand.

But the optimism proved short-lived. India’s lower middle order unravelled in spectacular fashion, collapsing from 157 for 5 to 162 all out in the 20th over, with five balls remaining.

South Africa’s Bowling Turns the Match

The collapse began when Jitesh Sharma fell to Lutho Sipamla in the 18th over. In the next over, Ottniel Baartman delivered a fiery spell, removing Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh, and Varun Chakravarthy within six deliveries. The final blow came in the last over when Lungi Ngidi dismissed Tilak Varma, sealing India’s fate.

Tilak, however, stood out with a defiant innings of 62 off 34 balls, including five sixes and two boundaries, giving India their only real shot at an unlikely chase.

De Kock’s Brilliance Sets Up South Africa’s Win

Batting first after losing the toss, South Africa posted an imposing 213 for 4. The backbone of their innings was Quinton de Kock, who played a sensational knock of 90 off 46 balls, striking seven sixes and five fours before falling early in the 16th over.

Late acceleration came from:

Donovan Ferreira: 30* off 16

David Miller: 20* off 12

Their finishing surge ensured South Africa crossed the 200-run mark comfortably.
