After months of speculation and anticipation, India is finally ready to welcome football superstar Lionel Messi. While Cristiano Ronaldo did not get the chance to be hosted in India, Messi’s arrival has triggered unparalleled excitement across the country. His highly anticipated “GOAT India Tour 2025” promises to captivate football fans in ways they have never witnessed before.
Messi is scheduled to land in India tomorrow, embarking on a whirlwind three-day tour that spans four major cities: Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi. This will be Messi’s first visit to India since 2011, and organisers have meticulously planned events that echo the superstar’s illustrious career. Fans across the country have long dreamed of such a spectacle, and this year, their wishes are finally coming true.
A central highlight of the tour is the unveiling of a 70-foot-tall statue of Messi in Kolkata. This will set a world record as the tallest statue ever dedicated to a footballer, cementing Messi’s legendary status in football history. Due to security measures, Messi will unveil the statue virtually from his hotel, ensuring fan safety while still participating in the historic moment.
During his tour, Messi will be accompanied at several events by his Inter Miami teammates Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul. Fans can expect masterclasses, charity events, and celebrity matches, all designed to celebrate Messi’s extraordinary career.
The Kolkata leg of the tour begins with Messi’s early morning arrival at 1:30 AM, followed by a luxurious hotel stay. The next morning, he will participate in a sponsored “Meet-and-Greet” event featuring an Argentina–India fusion culinary experience, including Assamese-inspired herbal mate tea, traditional Bengali sweets, and the famous Hilsa fish. Later, Messi will head to the Salt Lake Stadium, which has been prepared to host 75,000 spectators for the main event.
In Hyderabad, the GOAT Cup will see a 7v7 celebrity match, youth football masterclasses, a penalty shootout competition, and a musical tribute to Messi’s career, with the support of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Mumbai will host a socially responsible fashion show, with Messi, Suárez, and De Paul taking part in a 45-minute segment. Selected memorabilia from Argentina’s 2022 World Cup win will also be auctioned for charity, further engaging fans with the football legend.
The tour culminates in Delhi, where Messi will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and honour the Minerva Academy youth team, which has already won three European tournaments and reached the Helsinki Cup final. A celebrity football match will also take place, adding a grand finale to a truly unforgettable tour.
Messi’s India tour promises to be a historic celebration of football, culture, and global fandom, ensuring that India witnesses a legendary event worthy of the GOAT himself.
