Police Launch Massive Operation to Catch Attackers of Hadi

A massive operation has been launched by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to apprehend the assailants who shot and fled after attacking Sharif Osman Hadi, independent candidate for Dhaka-8 and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha. The information was confirmed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali.

Speaking to journalists on Friday (12 December) afternoon, the commissioner stated that Hadi was critically injured by the gunmen and is currently receiving treatment in the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His condition is described as extremely critical.

The DMP Commissioner added, “Wherever the attackers may be hiding, they will be tracked down. Alongside the police, the intelligence department and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) are also actively involved in the operation. Our primary objective is to identify the perpetrators swiftly and bring them under the law.”

According to initial reports, the attack took place around midday when two armed men on a motorcycle fired at Hadi while he was travelling in a rickshaw in the Bijoynagar area. The assailants quickly fled the scene. Hadi was rescued in a critically injured state and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 3:00 pm.

Metropolitan Zone Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Harun or Rashid stated that preliminary investigations indicate Hadi was travelling with an associate in the rickshaw when the two assailants opened fire near Kalvert Road. Several police teams are conducting investigations and collecting evidence from the scene.

Dr. Moshtak Ahmed, a physician at the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, reported that Hadi was shot in the head and is currently in a deep coma. His condition remains extremely serious, and doctors are making all possible efforts for his treatment.

Following news of the shooting, members of the July Revolutionary Organisation gathered in front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Leaders from various political parties also visited the hospital to check on his condition. Demonstrations demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the attackers have been ongoing at the site.

Since the incident, law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the surrounding area and are actively working to locate the perpetrators. Simultaneously, hospital security and medical operations are being ensured to monitor Hadi’s condition and continue necessary treatment.
