Dhaka Student Arrested Attempting Proxy Exam

A Dhaka University student was apprehended while attempting to sit a Jahangirnagar University (JU) entrance examination on behalf of another candidate. The incident occurred on Monday, 22 December, during the third shift of the test.

According to university sources, the student was caught at 11:50 a.m. in Room 402 of the School and College Building while attempting to take the B-Unit admission test as a proxy. Following the arrest, he was taken to the proctor’s office for initial questioning.

The individual has been identified as Md. Ehsanul Haque Jisan, a student of the Department of Urdu at Dhaka University, enrolled in the 2023–24 honours programme. He resides in Room 1015 of Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall.

Investigations revealed that Jisan was attempting to sit the exam on behalf of Rafid Hossain Sajid, the registered candidate for the test. After questioning Jisan, the proctorial body apprehended the genuine candidate, Rafid Hossain Sajid, outside the School and College Building.

In a statement during preliminary questioning, Jisan admitted that he had come to sit the exam in place of Sajid. The university authorities are currently reviewing the incident to determine appropriate disciplinary and legal measures.

JU Proctor Professor AKM Rashidul Alam said that a detailed briefing on the incident would be provided after the conclusion of the examinations. The university has emphasised that strict measures are in place to prevent and detect any form of examination fraud, including proxy candidates, and that those caught will face serious consequences.
