Napoli have triumphed in the Italian Super Cup, ending last year’s disappointment against Inter Milan. Under the guidance of Antonio Conte, the Serie A champions secured the coveted trophy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Monday night, defeating Bologna 2-0 in the final.
Brazilian winger David Neres was the star of the show, scoring both goals to seal Napoli’s third Italian Super Cup title, following their previous victories in 1990 and 2014.
The first goal came in the 39th minute at Al-Awal Park, when Neres curled a spectacular left-footed shot from nearly 25 metres, sending the ball straight into the top corner and leaving Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia helpless.
Napoli extended their lead in the 65th minute. Capitalising on a poor pass from Ravaglia, Neres swiftly dispossessed Jean Lukumi before calmly slotting the ball into the net, demonstrating composure and precision. Since joining Napoli from Benfica in August 2024, this marks Neres’ second brace for the club, and his tally of three goals in this Super Cup underscores his growing influence in the squad.
This victory also adds to Napoli’s strong recent form. Across all competitions, the team has won seven of their last nine matches, further consolidating their reputation as one of Italy’s most formidable sides under Conte.
Since 2023, the Italian Super Cup has been hosted in Saudi Arabia with a four-team format. The arrangement is contracted to continue until 2029, reflecting the kingdom’s growing role as a host of major European football events.
