Two Remanded in Bogura Businessman Murder Case

Bogura authorities have remanded two suspects for five days each in connection with the abduction and subsequent murder of a local businessman in Dupchanchia. The directive was issued on Tuesday evening by Judicial Magistrate Ariful Haque, confirmed Bogura Court Police Inspector Shahidul Islam.

According to the court, the two suspects were presented before the magistrate on Monday afternoon by the investigating officer of the murder case, Sub-Inspector Raihan Kabir of Dupchanchia Police Station, who initially sought seven-day remands for both. Following the hearing, the court approved a five-day remand for each.

The accused have been identified as Sanowar Hossain (40), a microbus driver from Sajapur village, and Sakib (24) of Kormoji village, both in Dupchanchia.

The victim, Pintu Akand, was discovered deceased on Monday night at around 11:15 pm in Kumarpara, a locality of the neighbouring Adamdighi Upazila, approximately two hours after his abduction. Pintu, originally from Lohachura village in Raninagar Upazila, Nawganj, owned a shoe showroom in Dupchanchia Sadar.

Police and local sources reported that Pintu was forcibly taken from his business premises at approximately 9:15 pm on Monday, threatened at gunpoint, and placed into a microbus by unidentified assailants. CCTV footage from surrounding areas captured the abduction in full, and the video subsequently circulated on social media.

Following the incident, Pintu’s wife, Sabina Khatun, filed a case with Dupchanchia Police Station against six to seven unknown individuals, accusing them of abduction and murder. The two detained suspects were then formally presented to the court.

Dupchanchia Police Officer-in-Charge Afzal Hossain revealed that upon recovery, Pintu’s nose and mouth had been tightly bound with tape, suggesting death by asphyxiation. The microbus used in the crime has been seized, and its driver detained for questioning. The precise motive behind the killing remains under investigation. Following autopsy, the victim’s body was returned to his family for final rites.
