A shocking robbery took place late on Thursday night along the Surabai-Purasunda stretch of the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway in Shayestaganj, Habiganj, where a group of armed men impersonating police officers intercepted a pickup truck carrying seven bulls, making off with both the livestock and the vehicle. The victim, cattle trader Dulal Mia, has filed a formal complaint at Shayestaganj Police Station.
According to Hiran Mia, a cattle trader from Ulukandi village in Chunarughat, he was travelling with fellow traders Chorab Ali from Sudiyakhla and Dulal Mia. The three had purchased seven bulls from Puradia Cattle Market under Belabo Thana, Narsingdi District, for a total of BDT 744,000, and were returning home by pickup truck when the audacious crime occurred.
The traders recounted that as they reached the specified section of the road, a group of 10–12 men, including three to four dressed in police uniforms, signalled them to stop using torches. Almost immediately, the three traders were forcibly removed from the pickup, blindfolded, and tied before being placed into a black Toyota Hiace van. Their captors then drove them towards Dhaka. Near Kuttapara on the Bishwaroad route, the traders were abandoned in a marshland while the assailants made off with the pickup truck and all seven bulls.
The traders managed to alert local residents by shouting for help under the cover of darkness, and were subsequently rescued. Family members later brought them safely home.
Shayestaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Abul Kalam, confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated: “We are investigating the matter thoroughly. Appropriate legal action will be taken once the facts are established.”
