In a shocking development during the Junior School Certificate (JSC) scholarship examination in Trishal, Mymensingh, police have detained Sadiqul Islam, the vice-president of the Trishal Upazila Student League, who had previously been banned from political activities, over allegations of leaking examination questions.
The incident occurred at the Nazrul Academy Centre, where authorities discovered the involvement of both a teacher and a student in the alleged malpractice. The Upazila Executive Officer, Arafat Siddiqui, reported that an educator possessing electronic devices and a student holding leaked question papers were immediately expelled from the centre. On Wednesday afternoon, the detained Student League leader was formally sent to court by Trishal police.
Investigations revealed that on Tuesday, just before the commencement of the JSC scholarship examination, Sadiqul Islam, a part-time physical education teacher at the same institution, reportedly received the question papers from the local police station a few minutes before the exam. He then allegedly distributed answers to his own students outside the examination hall. During this act, he was caught in flagrante delicto by Upazila Executive Officer Arafat Siddiqui. Confiscated from him were photocopies of the mathematics examination paper along with corresponding answer sheets, which were subsequently handed over to the Trishal police for further investigation.
Following the incident, Abdur Razzaq, the acting headteacher of Nazrul Academy and the centre secretary, lodged a formal complaint late Tuesday night, prompting the filing of a case. Authorities have also taken disciplinary action against other educators involved: Asaduzzaman, a teacher at Borma High School, was expelled for the use of electronic devices in the examination hall, and Ahnaf Abid Rafin of Nazrul Academy was removed for involvement in cheating activities.
