Three Accussed Arrested Over Shariatpur Businessman’s Murder

Shariatpur authorities, with the assistance of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), have arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal murder of 50-year-old pharmacy owner and mobile financial service agent, Khokon Das. The arrests were made on Thursday night following a targeted operation in Bajitpur, Kishoreganj. The suspects were subsequently brought to Shariatpur for further interrogation.

According to Shariatpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Rownak Jahan, the late Khokon Das had reportedly been able to identify his attackers prior to his death. He was the son of Polesh Das and a respected businessman in the local community, known for his pharmacy enterprise and mobile financial services.

Suspects Details:

Police reports indicate that on the night of 31 December, Khokon Das was returning home after closing his shop at Keherbonga Market. While passing through the Tiloi area, he was confronted by three to four assailants armed with sharp weapons. The attackers inflicted serious injuries on him and forcibly seized cash from his possession.

Eyewitnesses reported that some attackers recognised Khokon Das personally. Enraged, they attempted to kill him by dousing him with petrol and setting him on fire. Local residents rushed to his aid, taking him to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.

SP Rownak Jahan added that the arrested individuals were previously known locally for minor criminal offences and drug use. The RAB operation is ongoing as authorities seek to identify any additional accomplices involved in the attack.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant while promising enhanced security measures in the area to prevent further incidents.
