Mir Arshadul Joins BNP Amid NCP Resignations

In a significant political development, Mir Arshadul Haque, former Joint Secretary of the central committee of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and Chief Coordinator of Chittagong Metropolitan, has officially joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The formal induction took place on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the BNP Chairman’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. Mir Arshadul met with the party’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, to express his support and commitment. Subsequently, he submitted his membership papers to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, formally becoming a primary member of the party.

Several senior BNP officials were present during the event, including Treasurer Rashiduzzaman Millat and Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, highlighting the significance of the occasion within the party hierarchy.

Mir Arshadul’s move comes amid ongoing discussions of potential alliances between the NCP and Jamaat-e-Islami. On 25 December, he resigned from the NCP, citing his support for Tarique Rahman and the BNP’s political vision as the primary reason for his departure.

During his tenure with the NCP, Mir Arshadul was a highly regarded leader, both at the central committee level and within the Chittagong metropolitan area. His leadership and influence were especially notable in the lead-up to the upcoming national parliamentary elections, where he had been the NCP-nominated candidate for Chittagong-16 (Banshkhali) constituency. His resignation is therefore seen as a major political shift that could influence voter dynamics in the region.
