Former Soldier Murder: Two Arrested in Uttara, One Serving in Army

Dhaka police have arrested two individuals, including a serving army member, in connection with the murder of former soldier Mahbub Alam in Uttara. The detained suspects have been identified as Lance Corporal Imran and a civilian named Joni. According to Kazi Rafique, Officer-in-Charge of Uttara West Police Station, both suspects have confessed their involvement in the killing during court proceedings, providing detailed statements under oath.

The incident occurred on 16 January, when Mahbub Alam, 57, had gone to Sector 14, Road 12, in Uttara West to inquire about employment as a personal bodyguard. Witnesses report that two vehicles arrived at the scene, and an individual immediately struck Alam on the head with a blunt object. Within moments, five to six others joined in, assaulting him severely before fleeing the scene. Local residents quickly intervened, rushing him to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for treatment. Despite medical attention, Alam succumbed to his injuries on Sunday evening while undergoing treatment.

Alam had been employed in the accounting department of a private company in Uttara East prior to his death. He was a retired member of the Bangladesh Army and remained a respected figure in the local community. Following the assault, a murder case was promptly filed at Uttara West Police Station. Investigators later reviewed CCTV footage recovered from the crime scene, which led to the identification and arrest of Imran and Joni.
