In addition to the twelve confirmed fatalities, seven other workers sustained significant injuries and are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.

The energy conglomerate DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy provider, released a sombre statement confirming that the victims were their personnel. The strike in Dnipropetrovsk was part of a broader wave of aerial assaults across the region. Earlier on Sunday, local officials in Zaporizhzhia reported that Russian strikes had damaged a maternity hospital and a residential complex, resulting in at least nine injuries.

These incidents coincide with a period of intense Russian pressure on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. With the war entering its fourth year, the systematic targeting of power and mining facilities has left millions of civilians struggling with heating and electricity shortages during the harsh winter months.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday that a second round of high-level tripartite talks between officials from the United States, Russia, and Ukraine is scheduled to take place this coming Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The United States has reportedly been increasing diplomatic pressure on Kyiv to find a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
