Cox’s Bazar, 2 February 2026 – Tragedy struck in Chokoria Upazila today when two construction workers lost their lives after coming into contact with a live electrical wire while performing plastering work on a building under construction. The incident occurred around 12:00 PM at Khutakhali Bazar.
The deceased have been identified as Lal Muhit Uddin, also known as Sagar, 33, son of Abu Taher, and Mohammad Usman, 19, son of Mohammad Zohar, both residents of Gorjantoli village under Khutakhali Union.
Abdur Rahman, Chairman of Khutakhali Union Parishad, confirmed the fatalities, stating that the workers were plastering the third floor of the building when they accidentally touched a nearby electrical wire. Despite being rushed to the hospital, both were declared dead by attending physicians.
Eyewitnesses reported that three workers were present at the site when the accident occurred. The building was adjacent to an 11,000-volt electrical line, which first electrocuted Lal Muhit Uddin.
