Tragic Road Accident in Pakistan Claims 11 Lives, Including Driver

A devastating road accident occurred early on Sunday, 15 February, in the Tando Masti area of Khairpur district, Sindh province, Pakistan, when a passenger coach collided with a heavy trailer carrying concrete girders on a national highway. At least 11 people, including the bus driver and conductor, were killed in the crash, according to local rescue officials.

Reports indicate that the ill-fated bus was travelling from Punjab to Karachi at the time of the accident. The Edhi Foundation confirmed that the bodies of the deceased were transported to Khairpur Civil Hospital, while at least ten others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

In response to the incident, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Sindh instructed the Khairpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to immediately reach the scene and oversee rescue operations. Emergency services in the surrounding areas were mobilised to ensure prompt medical aid, and road access was maintained to facilitate the transfer of the injured to hospitals.

Officials noted that among the deceased were women and children. The impact of the collision was so severe that several passengers reportedly fell from an overpass, intensifying the scale of the tragedy. According to police, the bus involved was travelling on the opposite side of the road when the collision occurred.

Authorities have registered a case at Gadap Police Station on behalf of the state, charging those responsible with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, and negligent operation of a vehicle.

This incident comes just two days after another fatal accident on Friday, 13 February, near Kathore on the M-9 motorway, where a collision involving an oil tanker, a bus, and several other vehicles claimed at least 14 lives and left multiple people injured.

The preliminary investigation into the Khairpur crash indicates that the oil tanker lost control at approximately 3:40 pm, striking the trailer and another vehicle. The initial impact caused a bus travelling in the opposite direction and an additional vehicle to overturn, leading to multiple fatalities at the scene, including the tanker driver and occupants of the other vehicles.

Passenger bus (Punjab–Karachi) 9 10 Included driver and conductor; some passengers fell from overpass

The tragic series of accidents highlights ongoing concerns over road safety in Sindh province, prompting authorities to emphasise stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and enhanced monitoring on major highways.
