Mother Fatally Struck After Dropping Daughter at Madrasa

In a tragic accident on Sunday morning, a 32-year-old mother lost her life after being struck by a bus while returning home from dropping her daughter at a local madrasa in Sirajganj. The driver of the bus has been apprehended by police.

The incident occurred around 8:30 am on 15 February at the Biara Ghat Eidgah field in Kalia Haripur Union, Sirajganj Sadar Upazila. The victim, identified as Ankhi Khatun, was the wife of Faruk Hossain, a resident of Biara Ghat village.

According to Md. Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, Ankhi Khatun had dropped her daughter at a madrasa in the town and was returning home in a battery-operated auto-rickshaw. As she reached the busy Eidgah field, she was hit by a bus operated by SI Paribahan, which was travelling from Sirajganj to Dhaka. The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.

“Unfortunately, Ankhi Khatun succumbed to her injuries on the spot,” the OC confirmed.

Authorities from the Jamuna Setu West Police Station quickly responded to the accident. They managed to apprehend the bus, along with the driver, identified as Ashraful Islam, and initiated a formal investigation into the incident.

Residents of Biara Ghat expressed their grief and concern over the increasing number of traffic accidents in the area, particularly those involving pedestrians crossing busy roads near educational institutions. Local officials have urged commuters to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations, especially near schools and madrasas.
