Brazen Theft at Private School in Rupganj

RUPGANJ, Narayanganj — A daring theft has rattled the staff and management of a private educational institution in Rupganj, Narayanganj, after intruders broke into the school office and absconded with cash and critical documents.

The incident occurred on Sunday night (15 February) at Bright Shishu Kanan High School, located in the Khamarpur area of Kayetpara Union. According to the school’s headmaster, Rafiqul Islam, the crime was discovered the following morning by assistant teacher Anik Rahman, who found the office door lock shattered.

“Upon entering, we saw the office in disarray. Furniture was overturned, and the cabinets had been forcefully opened,” Mr Islam stated. “Important files, student admission-related cash, ties and badges, notebooks, diaries, and sales revenue amounting to BDT 127,000 were stolen.”

The headmaster expressed concern that while the theft initially appears opportunistic, it may have been a well-planned act targeting the school’s cash and sensitive records. The incident has raised serious questions regarding the adequacy of the school’s security measures. Staff and administrators are reported to be in a state of anxiety following the event.

Police Response

Subzel Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station, confirmed that officers were dispatched to the scene immediately after the report. “We are conducting a thorough investigation. A formal case is being filed, and necessary legal measures will be taken following the completion of our inquiry,” he said.

The stolen items and cash are detailed below:

Item Description Quantity / Value
Cash (admissions & sales) BDT 127,000
Important files & documents Multiple sets
Student ties and badges Various
Notebooks and diaries Numerous

The local community has expressed shock at the audacity of the theft, with parents voicing concern over the safety of their children and school property. Educational experts note that such incidents underline the urgent need for schools to implement robust security systems, including CCTV surveillance, alarm systems, and restricted access to administrative areas.

As investigations continue, authorities urge anyone with information about the crime to come forward, hoping for a swift resolution and recovery of the stolen property.
