COX’S BAZAR — In a daring display of operational skill, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully seized a total of 980,000 yaba tablets during two separate operations along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border. Both missions involved armed confrontations with drug traffickers, highlighting the vigilance and tactical expertise of the law enforcement agencies involved.
The operations took place late on Wednesday night in the Hnila and Whaikhyang border areas. Based on intelligence reports, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a joint patrol team comprising personnel from the Ramu, Ukhiya, and Teknaf battalions, under the direction of the sector commander and led operationally by the Additional Director (Operations) of the sector, strategically positioned themselves near the Chaudhuripara sluice gate, roughly 1.5 kilometres southeast of Hnila BOP.
Around 1:00 a.m., the team observed 8–10 suspected drug traffickers attempting to cross into Bangladesh from Myanmar. When challenged, the traffickers, armed with firearms, opened fire on the BGB personnel. In response, the BGB returned blank shots to control the situation.
The traffickers abandoned their consignment in a nearby mangrove area and took defensive positions, leading to an exchange of gunfire lasting approximately one hour. Due to the BGB’s disciplined and strategic maneuvers, several traffickers retreated via the Naf River, while 4–5 others fled toward nearby villages. To protect civilians, the BGB refrained from further direct engagement in those areas.
Subsequently, a shootout occurred with a local armed criminal group associated with the fleeing traffickers. Coordinated support from the Bangladesh Navy, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and police enabled additional patrols to quickly secure the area. A thorough search along the Naf River and adjacent embankments resulted in the recovery of 710,000 yaba tablets.
Meanwhile, another patrol from the Ukhiya Battalion, operating north of Whaikhyang BOP near Monirghona, seized 270,000 yaba tablets.
| Operation Area | Yaba Seized (Pieces) | Time | Involved Units |

| Chaudhuripara, Hnila | 710,000 | 1:00 a.m. | Ramu, Ukhiya, Teknaf BGB |
| Monirghona, Whaikhyang | 270,000 | 11:00 p.m. | Ukhiya Battalion BGB |

The BGB confirmed that all recovered yaba has been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station, and arrests and legal proceedings are underway. Authorities emphasised that such high-risk operations will continue to ensure border security and prevent drug smuggling in the future.
