In anticipation of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Railway has undertaken extensive preparations to manage the surge of homebound passengers. Alongside regular intercity services, the authority has announced the operation of five pairs of special trains. Advance ticket sales for the outward journey will commence on 3 March and continue until 9 March, while return journey tickets will be available from 13 to 18 March. All tickets will be sold exclusively online to ensure efficiency and safety.
These decisions were confirmed during a preparatory meeting held at Rail Bhaban on 22 February, as stated in an official press release on 25 February. Officials emphasised that the arrangements aim to make the festive travel period smooth, punctual, and secure.
Five pairs of special trains will operate on the following routes:

Officials noted that post-Eid, the Joydebpur–Parbatipur service schedule will undergo slight modifications. Ticket sales for travel on 20, 21, and 22 March will be determined based on the official sighting of the Eid moon.
Advance tickets will be issued daily for specified travel dates between 3 and 9 March. For western intercity trains, online sales will begin at 8:00 AM, and for eastern intercity trains, sales will start at 2:00 PM. Passengers may purchase a maximum of four tickets per person for outward and return journeys combined. All advance and return tickets are non-refundable.
On the day of travel, 25% of seats (excluding upper classes) will be made available as standing tickets at station counters to accommodate last-minute travellers.
Return journey tickets will be sold from 13 to 19 March, valid for travel between 23 and 29 March. To facilitate festive travel, all weekly intercity train suspensions will be temporarily lifted from 16 March until the day before Eid. Post-Eid, regular schedules will resume. Divisional and zonal monitoring cells will be active, with officials assigned emergency duties to ensure timely departures.
Heightened security measures will be in place at major stations including Dhaka, Airport, Joydebpur, Chattogram, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi, and Khulna. These will involve coordination among GRP, RAB, RAB, BGB, and local police, restricting access for passengers without valid tickets.
Railway patrols, signalling system checks, coach and engine inspections, and standby relief trains will be maintained throughout the period. Freight trains, except those carrying containers or fuel, will be temporarily suspended during peak passenger travel.
Between 16 March and the day before Eid, no tickets will be issued for Joydebpur–Dhaka and Airport–Dhaka intercity trains. Several Dhaka-bound trains will have temporary suspension of stops at the airport station, while extra coaches will be added according to demand. Moreover, saloon cars will not be attached to trains ten days before and after Eid.
Express services including Sundarban, Madhumati, Benapole, Jahanabad, Rupsi Bangla Express, and Nakshikantha Commuter will operate from Dhaka’s suburban platforms.
Railway spokesperson Rezaul Karim Siddique urged passengers to avoid fraudulent links circulating on social media under the pretext of ticket sales and report them immediately to law enforcement authorities. Bangladesh Railway has confirmed that every measure has been taken to ensure a safe, punctual, and hassle-free Eid journey.
