A twenty-one-year-old woman, identified as Regina Sarkar Pakhi, tragically ended her life while streaming live on Facebook in the Rajshahi metropolis on Wednesday. The harrowing incident occurred in the Kader Mondal Mor area, near Lakshmipur Bhatapara, leaving the local community and social media users in a state of profound shock.

Background and Emotional Turmoil

Originally from the Sapahar Upazila in Naogaon, Regina was the daughter of Idris Ali but had been residing in Rajshahi as the foster daughter of a local resident. According to police reports, Regina’s formal education concluded after the ninth grade. In recent times, she had reportedly struggled with substance abuse, a factor that authorities believe may have exacerbated her mental instability.

The primary catalyst for her distress is thought to be a tumultuous long-distance romantic involvement. Local sources and police officials indicated that Regina had formed a relationship with a young man residing in India via social media. Recent tensions and “strains” in this relationship are believed to have pushed her towards a state of severe emotional breakdown.

In the hours leading up to her death, Regina’s Facebook profile became a digital diary of her despair. Her posts tracked a rapid descent into hopelessness:

Final moments: Minutes before the act, she shared a photograph of a handwritten note addressed to her alleged lover, featuring the words “I love you” and “I miss you.”

Tragedy struck when she commenced a live broadcast, during which she used a scarf to hang herself from a ceiling fan. The distressing footage showed family members eventually discovering her and cutting the scarf to lower her body, but by then, it was too late.

Habibur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajputana Police Station, confirmed that officers arrived at the scene promptly to recover the body. “Preliminary investigations suggest she was mentally broken due to a relationship complication with an Indian national,” the OC stated, adding that her history of drug addiction likely played a role in her impulsive decision.

The deceased has been transported to the Rajshahi Medical College morgue for a post-mortem examination. The police have initiated an “unnatural death” case to formally investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
