International Women’s Day, observed globally every 8 March, honours the social, economic, political, and cultural contributions of women. This year, the celebration is elevated by the release of a heartfelt new song, “Nari Jay Bari”, brought to life by three prominent Bangladeshi artists—Sumonur Monir Konal, Antara Rahman, and Masha Islam. The composition captures the long journey of women and their emotional quest for identity, belonging, and a place to call their own.
The lyrics were penned by renowned poet and songwriter Shahid Mahmud Jangi, while the melody was composed by acclaimed musician Pilu Khan. The musical arrangement, crafted by Mir Masum, imbues the song with a rich, emotionally resonant texture. Accompanying the track is an animated music video created by Mir Hisham and Saraf Chishti, which visually amplifies the song’s message. Azab Records officially released the song, and it is simultaneously available across social media and international streaming platforms.
Speaking about the song’s theme, Shahid Mahmud Jangi remarked:
“Women spend their lives seeking a space of their own—sometimes in their father’s home, sometimes in their husband’s, and often for the sake of their children. But do they ever truly find a place for themselves? This eternal question forms the heart of our song.”
Pilu Khan added:
“I have collaborated with Jangi Bhai on numerous projects over four decades. This song represents a new chapter in portraying women’s life experiences, and I hope listeners feel its depth.”
The lead vocalists shared their reflections on the collaboration:
Sumonur Monir Konal: “Working with two legends has been an immensely joyful experience. Collaborating with Jangi Bhai and Pilu Bhai is a milestone in my musical journey.”
Antara Rahman: “As a woman, I see myself reflected in the lyrics. Participating alongside such distinguished artists is truly valuable.”
Masha Islam: “Shahid Mahmud Jangi and Pilu Khan are two colossal talents in our musical world. Working with them has been incredible, and I hope everyone enjoys the song.”
