Nahid Rana Sparks Bangladesh Dominant Win

Bangladesh opened their one-day international (ODI) series with an emphatic victory over Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, combining incisive bowling with assured batting to secure an eight-wicket triumph. The young pacer Nahid Rana spearheaded the effort, reducing Pakistan’s formidable batting line-up to just 114 runs. Chasing the modest target, Bangladesh achieved 115 for 2 in only 15.1 overs, sealing a convincing win.

Rana’s Match-Winning Spell

The spotlight of the match was undoubtedly Nahid Rana. In a destructive seven-over spell, he claimed five crucial wickets for just 24 runs, marking his first five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. Remarkably, this came on his home soil in his debut series, immediately establishing him as a promising fast-bowling prospect. His pace, accuracy, and perfect line-and-length deliveries left the Pakistani batsmen struggling for solutions.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan adopted a cautious approach. Bangladesh bowlers—Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz—controlled the early overs. However, in the tenth over, Rana turned the game on its head, dismissing opener Shahibzada Farhan to break the opening partnership.

Rana continued his onslaught:

12th over: dismissed Shamil Hossain

Soon after: bowled Maj Sadaqat

Followed by: induced Mohammad Rizwan to edge a catch to wicketkeeper Litton Das

Fifth victim: Salman Aga

Within a few overs, Pakistan’s batting backbone was shattered. Miraz supported with three wickets of his own, while Taskin and Mustafizur claimed one each. Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 30.4 overs. Fahim Ashraf top-scored with 37, and Farhan contributed 27.

Nahid Rana became the 17th bowler in Bangladesh ODI history to take a five-wicket haul in an innings. The record for most five-wicket hauls for Bangladesh remains with Mustafizur Rahman, followed by Shakib Al Hasan and Abdur Razzak, who have each achieved the feat four times.

Batting Response

Chasing the small target, Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Najmul Hossain Shanto launched an aggressive approach from the outset. The pair added an important 82-run partnership for the second wicket, effectively putting the match beyond Pakistan’s reach. Shanto scored 27, while Tamim remained unbeaten on 67, striking seven fours and five sixes to guide Bangladesh to victory comfortably.

Bangladesh reached the target with 209 balls remaining, demonstrating clear dominance in both bowling and batting departments and setting a commanding tone for the series.
