The first funeral prayer for renowned television actor and National Film Award recipient Shams Sumon has been held, marking a solemn farewell to one of Bangladesh’s most versatile performers. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, 18 March, at 11:00 am at the Channel i premises, where his body was brought for the congregational prayer. Numerous artists, filmmakers, and cultural figures attended, paying their respects and expressing their grief over the loss of a celebrated talent.

According to reports, Sumon’s family has travelled from the United Kingdom and is en route to Bangladesh. Once they arrive, he will be interred at his family grave in Rajshahi. In the meantime, authorities have decided to keep his body at the CMH mortuary in Dhaka until the family’s arrival.
Shams Sumon passed away on the evening of Tuesday, 17 March, at a private hospital in the capital. His demise has left a void in the Bangladeshi entertainment industry, where he had long been a revered figure for his work across stage, television, and film.
Sumon’s career was marked by versatility and dedication. From theatre productions to small-screen television dramas and feature films, he earned acclaim for his performances across all platforms. In recent years, he had served as the Station Chief of Radio Bhumi, continuing to contribute to the cultural landscape of Bangladesh until his final days.
