Two Friends’ Cox’s Bazar Trip Ends Tragically

A horrific road accident in Feni has claimed the lives of two friends from Narayanganj, leaving at least five others injured. The victims were travelling to Cox’s Bazar for a leisure trip when the fatal collision occurred, and their bodies have now been returned to their families.

The tragedy took place at around 4:00 am on Sunday (22 March) on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in the Rampur area of Feni. The deceased have been identified as Yamin, a resident of Singlabo, Golakandail Union, Rupaiganj, and Ujjal Biswas of Baliyapara, Araihazar. Yamin was the proprietor of Star Tailors in the local Gausia Market, while Ujjal Biswas worked at a footwear factory and rented a residence in Singlabo.

According to police and family sources, six friends set off on three motorcycles on the night of Eid, aiming for a trip to Cox’s Bazar. Around dawn, road repair work in the Rampur area slowed an ambulance’s movement. A bus operated by Shyamoli Paribahan collided with the ambulance from behind, causing traffic congestion.

As the motorcyclists stopped to assess the situation, a verbal altercation broke out among drivers. Several vehicles, including motorcycles, became stuck. At this critical moment, a high-speed bus from Doel Paribahan lost control and ploughed into the crowded area, resulting in a three-way collision involving the bus, ambulance, and motorcycles. The crash claimed the lives of three individuals at the scene, including Yamin and Ujjal.

Several injured victims, including Mahmudul Hasan Dipu and Nazmul Hasan, were rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The bodies of the deceased were taken to their respective hometowns for burial and funeral rites.

A summary of the victims and key details is presented below:

Name Hometown Occupation Status
Yamin Singlabo, Rupaiganj Tailor, Star Tailors Owner Deceased
Ujjal Biswas Baliyapara, Araihazar Factory Worker Deceased
Mahmudul Hasan Dipu Injured, hospitalised
Nazmul Hasan Injured, hospitalised

Rupaiganj Police Inspector (OC) Md. Sabzel Hossain stated, “Since the incident occurred in Feni, families may pursue legal action at the relevant local police station if they wish.”

This tragic event highlights the risks posed by road congestion, ongoing highway maintenance, and the lack of traffic discipline, particularly during early morning hours. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on highways, emphasising the need for stricter traffic management to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The incident has left the local community in shock and renewed calls for enhanced road safety measures along the Dhaka–Chattogram corridor, one of Bangladesh’s busiest highways.
