Sushmita Faces Renewed Controversy Post-Divorce

West Bengal actress and influencer Sushmita Roy has recently embarked on a new chapter in her personal life following her divorce. While many have extended their congratulations on her fresh start, she has also faced criticism and scrutiny from some quarters. Amidst this, Sushmita has publicly accused her former husband, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, of exhibiting perverse sexual behaviour and implicated members of his family in her allegations—a development that has kept her in the headlines over the past several months.

Divorce Announcement on Birthday

On 20 March 2025, coinciding with her birthday, Sushmita and Sabyasachi formally announced their separation via a joint statement on social media. Sabyasachi wrote, “Stay well. Grow bigger. On your birthday, my final wish is that you remain happy. May this new chapter be a positive one.” He went on to explain the couple’s decision to part ways, citing irreconcilable differences, and requested that the public refrain from speculation.

Sushmita’s brother-in-law, actor Sayak Chakraborty, confirmed the separation, noting that the couple had attempted to reconcile previous differences but ultimately could not sustain their marriage. It is noteworthy that the pair had once considered divorce around two and a half years ago, only to reconcile temporarily.

A New Beginning

Following her divorce, Sushmita shared her new life on social media in March, posting wedding photos along with the message: “This desire has never left my heart—the hope to hear one word: mother. At 36, I no longer have the time for pretence. I married… bless me all.”

Emerging Allegations

Shortly after her new marriage, Sushmita sparked renewed discussion by sharing a screenshot of a threatening chat from her former husband, alleging intimidation. In a live session, she elaborated on past grievances, claiming that the Chakraborty family, including Sabyasachi and Sayak, threatened to expose her personal information. She openly admitted to having multiple previous relationships, further intensifying the controversy.

Sushmita accused her ex-husband of engaging with several women even during their marriage, citing financial exploitation and a desire to control aspects of her life. According to her, this led to her decision to divorce, compounded by family opposition to having a child in her care.

Sabyasachi responded on social media, asserting: “This was Sushmita’s fifth marriage. I endured her suspicion and outbursts. She caused disruptions, raised questions about my character, and took advantage of our modest financial situation. I was expected to provide gifts while she pursued her ambitions and projects with my resources.”
