Seven Arrested Over Robbery Plot in Narayanganj

Police in Narayanganj have arrested seven individuals during a special overnight operation on suspicion of preparing to carry out a robbery in different parts of the district. Authorities also recovered a range of tools allegedly intended for use in the planned criminal activity.

The arrests were confirmed on Wednesday (2 April) through a press release issued to the media by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Tarek Al Mehdi of Narayanganj District Police.

According to police sources, the coordinated operation was conducted between 5:00 am and 7:00 am in several locations across the city. Acting on intelligence information, law enforcement officers carried out targeted raids, detaining the suspects while they were reportedly in the preparatory stages of organising a robbery.

Preliminary findings suggest that the group had been operating collectively and was planning to execute a robbery operation, although further details regarding the intended target or location have not yet been disclosed as the investigation remains ongoing.

Police officials stated that equipment commonly associated with forced entry and criminal activity was seized from the suspects at the time of arrest. These items have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing inquiry and will be examined as evidence in court proceedings.

Authorities confirmed that all seven individuals were taken into custody from different areas during the early morning operation and later brought to police stations for questioning.

Additional Superintendent of Police Tarek Al Mehdi stated that a case has been filed against the accused under charges related to preparation for robbery. He further confirmed that the arrested individuals have already been produced before the court as part of standard legal procedures.

Law enforcement officials indicated that initial interrogation points towards the existence of a coordinated group allegedly involved in planning criminal activities in the area. However, investigators are continuing to verify the extent of their involvement, possible accomplices, and whether the group has any prior criminal records.

Police have also intensified surveillance and patrols in key areas of Narayanganj following the arrests, particularly in locations identified as vulnerable to organised criminal activity.

The district police administration reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and warned that strict legal action would be taken against any individuals involved in planning or executing such offences. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and additional evidence is reviewed.
