Truck Collision Claims Life in Dhaka

A young transport worker was killed in a road accident after being struck by a speeding truck in the Shonir Akhra area of Jatrabari, Dhaka, late on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Sajjad Sakib, a transport labourer. He was a resident of Alamin Road in Konapara, Demra. His father’s name is Abdus Salam. According to family and local accounts, Sajjad was engaged in transport-related work to support his livelihood.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. when Sajjad was crossing the road in the Shonir Akhra area. Witnesses and police sources stated that a fast-moving truck hit him suddenly while he was on the roadway. The impact left him critically injured on the spot.

Immediately after the accident, bystanders rushed to his aid and transported him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. However, attending physicians declared him dead around 1:30 a.m., shortly after his arrival.

Following the incident, police from Jatrabari Police Station responded to the scene. The vehicle involved in the collision was later seized by law enforcement; however, the driver managed to flee the area before authorities could detain him. Police have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the accident.

Sajjad Sakib’s body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, as part of standard legal and investigative procedures. Authorities are expected to conduct an autopsy to determine further forensic details related to the cause of death.

The incident once again highlights concerns over road safety in densely populated areas of the capital, particularly during late-night hours when traffic visibility and pedestrian awareness are often reduced. Local residents have long expressed concerns about speeding vehicles and insufficient traffic control in the Shonir Akhra corridor, a busy junction connecting several major routes.
