Mentally Unstable Man Beaten to Death in Nalchity

A 42-year-old man, identified as Iqbal Hossain, was brutally beaten to death by unidentified assailants in Nalchity upazila of Jhalakathi district. The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 pm on Sunday, 12 April, in Toukathi village. The victim, who was reported to be mentally unstable, was the son of the late Azhar Ali Howlader, a resident of Khagrakhana village within the same upazila.

Incident Details and Sequence of Events

According to local sources and family members, Iqbal Hossain left his residence on Sunday afternoon and headed towards the Fakirbari Bazar area in Toukathi village, located under the Kulkathi union. During this time, he was accompanied by an individual identified as Abdur Razzaq, the son of Rashid Shikdar from Khagrakhana village.

The attack took place while Iqbal was returning home. At roughly 8:00 pm, in a secluded spot by the roadside in Toukathi village, a group of unidentified miscreants intercepted him. The assailants launched a violent physical assault, reportedly using blunt instruments to beat him severely. The severity of the attack resulted in one of his arms and both legs being broken and nearly severed from his body. Following the assault, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving the critically injured victim behind.

Medical Intervention and Death

Local residents discovered the victim in a critical state and promptly alerted his relatives. Family members arrived at the scene to rescue him and immediately transported him to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barishal for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, Iqbal Hossain succumbed to his injuries at approximately 1:00 am while undergoing treatment.

Investigation and Statements

Ansar Ali, the elder brother of the deceased, has called for the immediate arrest of those responsible. He stated that the whereabouts of Abdur Razzaq, who was last seen with the victim, are crucial to the investigation. He suggested that apprehended Razzaq could provide vital information regarding the identities of the assailants and the motive behind the killing.

The Inspector (Investigation) of Nalchity Police Station, Md. Ashraf Ali, confirmed the details of the homicide. He stated that police personnel were dispatched to the crime scene immediately upon receiving the report. The body of the deceased has undergone a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Law enforcement agencies are currently conducting operations to identify and arrest the suspects involved in the murder. The process of filing a formal legal case regarding the incident is currently underway.
