Teen Exploitation Case Sparks Outrage

A man has been arrested in the Indian state of Maharashtra’s Amravati district on serious allegations of sexually exploiting at least 180 teenage girls and recording more than 350 obscene videos, in a case that has triggered widespread public concern and demands for a high-level investigation.

According to reports published by Indian media outlet NDTV, the accused, identified as Mohammad Ayaz alias Tanveer, a resident of Paratwada town, is alleged to have systematically targeted minor girls by luring them into so-called romantic relationships. Investigators claim he then transported some of the victims to cities including Mumbai and Pune, where he allegedly recorded explicit videos without their consent.

Authorities further allege that the accused used the recorded material to blackmail the victims, coercing them into continued exploitation and, in some cases, forcing them into prostitution. There are also claims that a portion of the footage was circulated online, significantly widening the scope of the alleged abuse and raising concerns over digital exploitation and cybercrime networks.

The case gained momentum after a Member of Parliament, Anil Bonde, submitted a formal memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, Vishal Anand. In his complaint, he alleged that the victims were systematically targeted through messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Snapchat, where organised groups were used to identify and manipulate vulnerable minors. Bonde also warned that failure to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would prompt public protest outside the police headquarters.

Local community members, including representatives of the Muslim community, reportedly visited the police station and demanded strict legal action against the accused. They also emphasised that the alleged actions of an individual should not be used to tarnish the reputation of an entire community.

Following the complaint and growing pressure, police arrested Ayaz and produced him before a court, which granted seven days of police custody for further interrogation. Authorities have also seized his mobile phone, which is believed to contain a large number of incriminating videos and digital evidence.

Cybercrime officials have now joined the investigation to determine whether the accused shared the content with associates or any organised criminal network. Efforts are also underway to trace and remove any of the videos that may have been circulated on the internet.

Police officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing and will include a detailed forensic analysis of seized devices, digital communications, and social media activity linked to the accused.
